bulleted living.

---i've been spread thin as government peanut butter on the 30th of the month. no time for much, certainly not this b'log. oh yeah, i also kind of lost my mind for about 2 days (highly bloggable, will do soon) as the result of a monthly, nearly clockwork hormonal possession of my soul, mind and body, so that consumed some time. Breakdown the band is much cooler than the crippling mental meltdown sort.

---hurst and i went to see M83 at the bottle. no pictures; too dark and too sold out. steve kane was there and i kissed his head and his shampooed hair smelled so nice. i love their new record much more than the other two but MAAAAN are there some extremely corny parts within. take lyrics like, "she skims the sweat like a new milk as pops the buttons off her wet blouse." i told mark, it's like someone tried to set lyrics to the cover of a romance novel with Fabio on it and the music screams naked bodies rolling in the tide. can't listen to it without the overwhelming feeling of sand crotch.

---in the mail last week. who the fuck thought this would EVER happen again.

---Punch in the Face played their last show and my best male-identified friend Carson came up to see it and visit. we met in the afternoon, had a drink and small meal at a bar/restaurant by me that i've avoided because the stroller brigade is usually there but they surprisingly had AWESOME beers and a corner table outside that offered safe distance from the undesirables.
then meet up with matt and matt. if this isn't a tri-force of laughs right here...
loaded into mattus' car and i assumed the role of most sober driver and took off for the show, warm weather and hawkwind a plenty.

i didn't take any PITF pictures because i didn't want to hassle with my camera, but i did take a few of Cardiac Arrest. Rob Ruz, front man of one of the most underrated hardcore bands in existence.
thanks for something like 7-8 years of never letting me down PITF; from ebro handing off the demo to me in the living room of 151 through the last beat of the Cro-Mags cover.

---my coworker graduated from Lane Tech in Chicago in 80. she saw some really fun things. not a punk or anything like that, but certainly an after hours troublemaker and has lots of booze and drug rotted stories about roaming chicago. she brought in all her old buttons and i was happy to see she had a bunch of fringe slogan types from this button company called Ephemera. i have a couple of their buttons from the later 80's and lost my fav which was meant to look like a political campaign button but with manson's face in the middle and reading, "pass the buck to chuck. manson in '88".

also brought in her brother's B-52's button collection. i have some of my own from around the time of the middle one. holy shit...a fan club one!

---BBQ at taylor's the next day. brought some banana fudge cupcakes with fudge frosting and crushed peanuts and a cherry on top. and vegan! taylor's brilliance told her to grill them and grill them she did. didn't make it there until later and hung with the second shift of visitors. as always, some of the funniest company i've ever had the pleasure of being in.
awesome dumpstered coffee table/m.p. lovechild (so happy for him...playing with j. mascis and kevin sheilds' brother at ATP).
oh god these two!
another dumpstered gem and the ying to my yang nesting in it. (edit: the ying/yang metaphor makes it sound like we are opposites when what i meant was we were going to 69 in that chair, much like a ying yang. we actually have some similarities.)
---Red Dons came through on saturday. not as good as when i saw them in st louis last spring. no observers songs, though there were like 80 suggestions in their merch that would make you think they'd play some. i wiggled a bit, but the energy wasn't really there.

however, THE ESTRANGED played before them and were so good i could've just left after they played. they have two 7"s and a new full length on dirtnap. just fucking get em.
the spirit of Mission of Burma can be seen as the yellow swirls around the bassist.

later that night saw most of Rise Against and some of their friends at pick me up. haven't seen those guys in like two years since fame really swept them up. Joe88 is still nice and we did a condensed catching up so that was good but it's so funny to me that these guys have seen the WORLD with this band and they all come home and still talk about who's still edge and vegan. oh well.
