this is the modern world.

to think that at one time, as a friendly gesture, neighbors would bake for one another. now we deliver data sticks with downloaded movies that are currently in theatres. thanks friend.

double negative, fucked up and The Beast

if i can't get my hands on an original flyer, i'm off to kinko's to make it myself.

so i turned 30 last month.

when birthday girl makes a birthday wish to listen to the cro-mags, that's what birthday girl gets. she also gets a room full of some of her best friends and a cat going bananas. i remember 12% of this. thanks vincent for immortalizing what growing up apparently means to me.

she smokes too. it's terrible.

paging bryan carson. paging bryan carson.

the girl from Dressy Bessy has and etsy shop and she's selling her personal collection! also selling adorable handmade hats, like the ones she's been known to wear.

i'm torn as to whether i should buy a dress to wear or to make into two pillows so bryan and i can each sleep on one.

natural heart tote at http://www.spoiledcaviar.etsy.com/
(i think i'm going to hit this guy up to see if he'll do a custom order for this on a shirt for me. i love it because i was trying to get an image together to print of a cut open torso with a garden coming out of it...now i think i just want a manequin turned planter in my hopeful garden this summer)

Odd Fellows necklace at http://www.opulentoddities.etsy.com/

the Hull House Museum on UIC's campus is hosting a documentary series starting today ( i should be there!) and running through the spring that will feature films based in the broad spectrum that is sex positive thinking and living. the link above is a listing of all proposed films and details of each. this will be awesome!

from the website...
Explore sexuality in a new way by joining us for a series of films about positive sexuality and sexual identity. This free documentary series will create a new space to discuss sex, culture, and sexual fun! Each film will be accompanied by delicious snacks and followed by relevant conversation. The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum is pleased to host this series as a new expression of the Hull-House Settlement's historic advocacy for sex education.

that's right, delicious snacks!

to mark the opening of the film series, let's watch a video of the best song ever written on the topic of pegging:

Dear XXX,

It's been wonderful and rewarding to work for you for over four years and i thank you for the opportunity. At the time, my life is heading into a new direction and a position in the Cancer Center Laboratory cannot accommodate these changes. With that being said, this is formal documentation of my two week notice of resignation on January 16, 2009**.

Sincerely,

Sara E. Reeble

**they asked me to stay one more week and i said i would so my final day was actually the 23rd.

taking a new job with better hours at Children's. essentially doing what i do now, with less of a work load and an increase in the spectrum of testing i'm responsible for which means getting away from being a brainless workhorse and getting back into being a challenged and skilled tech. i'll be assisting on bone marrow biopsies as well which will be equally heartbreaking and nerve wrecking. they put the kids under, thankfully, before they obtain the marrow specimen. i had to leave my job mostly for myself. i want to go back to school possibly or at least keep filling up my non-work time with learning of any kind. and most definitely to find a job that didn't consume my entire day. i'll leave work at 4:30 at Children's so this is ideal. i left my job because my boss did nothing for almost a year when my 7pm time off inched it's way to 7:30, 8 and even 8:30. my day was blown when this would happen. no one else i worked with had to worry about open ended hours that they didn't ask for, so no one cared when it was happening to me. my supervisor had the nerve to say that she didn't really take me seriously when i told them i was staying overtime nearly every night and now she's not sure how they can hire some one while saying "your hours are 10-7, kind of". i don't feel bad for you.

i told myself awhile back that i'd like to see a few things come into my life:
1. new job
2. screen printing class
3. etsy store
4. creating more handmade
5. research nutrition programs
6. old town class
7. photo class

1-5 down. still looking into nutrition programs but i'm having such a blast selling on etsy and taking class at lillstreet that i don't think i'm ready to make that big of a commitment yet since i've been neck deep in the same CAREER (i forget that sometimes, that i've had a legit career) for over almost 7 years. i'm kind of kicking around the idea of getting into a textiles/design program? who knows. come spring i'm reallyreally hoping to take a class at old town if i have the money together. i've also been researching classes at Chicago Photography Center. i don't have a DSLR yet, but i think it would be really worth it when i get one:
http://www.chicagophoto.org/newweb/classes/main/classes.php
They at least have a bunch of free classes for digital and manual cameras in the meantime so i want to take advantage of those mostly because i came into ownership of my dad's cousins Minolta that he took to Nam.

film canisters:

Dad says he never saw any of the pictures he took while he was there.

good doing better

i'm not much for tribute cds...it seems the 90's was so bombarded with those that any sense of tribute is overshadowed by the novelty of it all and then of course you have assholes putting their spin on classics when you just want them to play the damn song, or at least render a version you can equate to the original in some way, even behind some yelping or a newly added horn intro . BUT! i just heard a version of my FAVORITE SONG EVER (this is not phony emphasis) covered by one of the best bands ever. the tribute is called "just like heaven" and the wedding present covers "HIGH". i heard it on the juxtaposition radio show from last week. too bad the wedding present didn't do the cover when i saw them a couple months ago. i like it, but it's a little off to hear such a jaded nonchalant trying to channel king pussypants.

sick, dawg. healthy kitty.

miss blue. my broken and retired sewing chair. material scraps from making a friend a wine bottle tote. some ancient irons that make excellent door stops. dirty floor.

blue on an amp that was humped to shreds by goth cats. 100.9 degree fever. living room. inter species snuggs. gifted afghan from sis.
guessing the virus found me at some point on saturday between doing 90 minutes of bikram yoga with tay and walking out into the tundra with a sweaty, wet head. 3 days off and couldn't really enjoy any of it. however, did enjoy 105 degree yoga so much that i can't wait to go back. first time, never stopped. my friend was proud. thanks to that wretched volleyball coach of my youth making us practice for 4 hours in a midwest gymnasium with no AC in 100+ humid heat every summer ("hell week" we called it) because some of my endurance has, well, endured.

movies:
1. Lake of Fire. Documentary on abortion released in 06/07, with much footage from the early 90's. The camera work is exceptional. Black and white, maybe saying something with that? many interviews with modern philosophers, Noam Chomsky most notably, politicians, medical workers, bible beaters and "Roe". This is not a sided documentary, which is what i like most about it. digs very deep into the extremes at which the far christian right has taken their anti-abortion stance, now getting cozy with the justification for murdering abortion providers as god's will. also digs very deep into the reality of abortion with many scenes staged behind the head of the practioner, watching the procedure carried out.

2. Kill Your Idols. wow this documentary takes a nose dive into shitsville half way through. the first half is footage of the new york no-wave scene and interviews with members of. very drawn to the lydia lunch and m. gira pieces and reminded how awesome Theoretical Girls were. somehow a bridge is then made from no-wave to 2003ish NYC bands like, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's? and for what exactly? the answer to that is never totally revealed but it seems like the point was to show that these modern bands can't hold a candle to the new york that was; musically, creatively, in spirit and in strenght. lydia lunch gives a lashing that forces me to imagine karen o. crying in a corner clutching a teddy bear.
