last weekend i joined Carson as his most reliable platonic date-friend for our friend Mike's wedding to his charming Lauren in St. Augustine, Florida. Lovely time, but i hate me some Florida; mostly it's their particular breed of laboratory created white trash and the over abundance of sun making a mess of my porcelain (though blemished!) skin. We got into town, got a hotel room and then headed to an A-frame beach house where wedding people were staying...on the beach!!!
view from the upper level of the house.
no hesitation in starting to drink like 22 year olds in Cancun and no hesitation to get into the ocean...
hang on the beach...
and hang on the porch overlooking the ocean. that's Carson and i along with Aaron and Melissa who we split a room with every night, except this particular night because carson and i split off late, late, late in the night to swim in the ocean at 5am where my tampon was taken out of me by the sea!! also was running/skipping like a kid down the beach, under a full moon, and didn't realize my right boob decided to come out and party from my bikini top without me noticing. thankfully, no one else noticed before me.
but before the late night swim, we saw ASSHOLE PARADE?two-man opening band.
and yes, Asshole Parade got back together for the wedding.
Carson and i took on a swing set after the show...
then headed to an after hours ordeal that served me one of the worst hangovers of my life...i'm pretty over this routine, btw.
spent most of the next day sleeping until we went to the rehearsal dinner...
then called it a night.

next day was wedding day and mother nature wasn't being very cooperative.
glued to the t.v. to see if the wedding was going to operate on the back-up, indoor plan.
opportune time to paint nails and talk/fall in love with melissa.
mother nature was kind, and the wedding was on the beach as planned. everyone headed back to the houses on the beach to get ready. here's the happy couple showing up...
and where they were to wed.
more drinks going down beforehand.

ladies making their way through the yard for picture time.

a few pictures before the big event...
(i don't know where i pulled the pagent pose from.)
short and sweet (and beautiful) ceremony.
and sealing the deal. crying at this point.
everyone was asked to take a shell from the flower girl,
and chuck it into the ocean.
reception traditions. danced to built to spill but you couldn't really hear it.
sat with Team Cute again.
no knives for the beef brisket bring out the savage side of Bryan.
we made off with 6 magnums of wine.
and things got nuts...

these two can make me laugh like no others.
i fell and dislocated my knee (life long issue) but was too happy dancing to Elastica and Boston with Carson to really give a turd.
next day dinner at a waterfront restaurant. everything on the table was exceptionally yellow ('cept the red cup) and made me uncomfortable. grilled asparagus and fried plantains were comforting though.
before dinner we swam some more but headed up to the house because this beast rolled in. no rain ever came of it but we stared at the clouds for a long time.

spent the last night nesting on the porch, talking to Lauren about the Peace Corp in Africa and watching the moon come up over the ocean.

broken record, broken record player.

turntable is sick and all i want to do is listen to this...

and this...

which lead me to this...haven't heard this song in easily 15+ years...totally forgot about it. sung the chorus like i just heard it this morning. i love songs that get filed on you like rings around a tree, just stuck forever.

if this last one isn't the epitome of "adult alternative" i don't know what is. up there with the fucking Call or something. my youth was so backwards in that music that i loved was relevant to folks 10+ years my senior and "youthful" music which i appreciated/lived/enjoyed, obviously, was met with a shaking head like "oh you silly little kids...". somehow approaching 30 and it's all of equal importance now.

where have all the introspective prostitutes gone?

thanks to frank for posting the scene from My Life to Live of the carefree Anna Karina dancing in a cafe because i noticed links to other clips of the movie, which is probably the most profound piece of film to ever come into my life (actually, split rank with Juliet of the Spirits).

this is my absolute favorite scene from the movie. #11: Nana becomes an unwitting philosopher. Nana, battling the consuming and sometimes crippling ideas of confidence, truth and the concept of words with grace and dignity. owning the confusion that makes us thinking people, understanding that the path it takes to get there is terrifying but in the end rewarding. sometimes it's enough to make you lay in bed with the covers over your head, neglecting to call your folks on sundays; sometimes it's enough to draw you into spirited conversations with strangers while having a smoke in between turning tricks.

the seclusion of my youth

i miss it so much some days.
miss sitting at the foot of this pretty unimpressive dump of a building and wishing it was mine so i could have 8 different themed floors and throw things from every window to see what made the most interesting sight/sound.
miss pulling off and always finding something unexplained along the road that i have no business understanding.
miss sitting here, trying to understand death and counting how many teeth the graveyard had (i count at least four in the forefront).
miss asking horses questions and thinking they understood with their batting eyelashes.
and petting them for helping me out.
i miss productive seclusion.

if you could...

1. sunset

2. deep seat

3. harry and maggie

4.blowin cool

this will probably be one of those, "reeble's crying again" kind of deals.

feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings. they bring em on.

big mistake.

i did a search for "squirrel" on etsy.com. this is a smidge of the 400 squirrel-related items i want.

smallest picture, most desireable.

hot finds 6/9/08

technically "found" at the anti-cruelty society. also technically cute as fuck.

pink piggies found while taking a very early glance at the rental market around Ukrainian village. oh yeah, i FOUND that there is none.

unholy and rotten

Purchased at Uncommon Objects in Austin, TX.

Asking price $175. Paid $100. So worth it.

Picked up a stack of books and saw this looking up at me:
Turned it over to see this:

opened it to find this: funny because on the way to Texas, Matt was reading some of Einstein's writings from his later years where he's trying suggest harmony between a christian existence and a science based one, basically doing a 180 from his earlier ideals (and i'm really fond some of those ideals). another case of getting old and blowing it.

this one might explain a period in my personal history:

also picked up some photos of a camera shop that i want to blow up to hang next to my old camera collection:
couldn't pass this one up either:
