matt and i biked up to the Diner last week because it seemed that we would die if we didn't get a cookie dough shake and as we were eating and chatting (and watching Matt Skiba walk in and complain to the waitress that he can't believe they don't have a Cesar salad anymore) a decent 80's radio mix started playing. this came on and i can't shake it ever since...

i guess it's because it's mid-summer, but i'm having the most sharp, vivid memories come back to me of hanging poolside at my grandparent's while my mom was at work, cleaning their house (yes, that was one of her jobs for awhile) and just being the most care free, little summer break kid and blasting this song while getting my tan on. pretty positive one of those weird swimsuits that was a hybrid one piece and two piece, connected on the sides, was involved. kinda sick of rehashing nostalgia, but this memory was so intense i didn't know what else to do with it. and for what it's worth, Phil Oakey is cripplingly gorgeous in this video.

  1. i too have a summer memory forever attached to this song. i was working at a kohl's department store in my third year of high school. this song, along with "i confess" by the english beat was played constantly while the air conditioning froze the lyrics. working in the mens department, i had so much time i jerked off in the mens dressing room. the timing was strange- considering when i started ejaculating on the mirror- my manager made a page over the speakers for the registers. i believed the mirrors had cameras, and i had been caught.
later on when i wasn't as paranoid and i had been dating a co worker- bad idea- i made daily trips to piss in the corner under the bench. to this day they still can't get the smell out, and haven't replaced the carpet.

-let's just say that if the cocteau twins "crushed" was somehow played when i had worked there, there would have been shit smeared on the walls. i always told the managers that whoever made the mess was "only human."
